Symphony staff go the distance in charity walk

Kitchen manufacturer Symphony has raised over £3,000 for two children’s charities after employees completed a 20-mile walk from the company’s Barnsley HQ to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The group of seven staff members took on the challenge to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital Charity and The Sick Children’s Trust – two organisations that Symphony says have supported its staff and their families in recent years.

According to the company, their route followed the Trans Pennine Trail through South Yorkshire, passing Meadowhall before finishing at the hospital in Sheffield. The team completed the walk in under seven hours, and they were boosted by generous donations that saw them more than 60% of their charity target before even setting off.

The fundraising total reached £3,170, which has been split evenly between the two charities. The money will go towards enhancing medical care for young patients and providing accommodation for families during hospital stays.

Organised by Symphony’s George Burtoft and Emma Watson, the event was supported by colleagues Brett Roberts, Robert Newton, Emma Banks, Steven Banks, and Sharon Vurgest. Burtoft and Watson later presented the donation cheques to both charities on behalf of the team.

Discussing the impact of the fundraiser, Symphony sustainability analyst George Burtoft said on LinkedIn: “Immensely proud of the team for completing this mega challenge, and equally as proud of myself and Emma Watson for organising the day. Emma and I have both had experiences with The Children’s Hospital Charity and The Sick Children’s Trust – which is why we decided to fundraise for these two amazing charities.”
